I'm thrilled to share the beginning of my new vlog series which documents an amazing trip I took to Hokkaido, Japan, in January-February 2026. This journey has been a remarkable experience for me as it marked my first encounter with Japan's stunning winter landscape and its vibrant culture. With a keen focus on the Sapporo Snow Festival, which is the highlight of my trip, I hope to convey the essence of this beautiful region.
The Sapporo Snow Festival: A Winter Wonderland
The Sapporo Snow Festival is Japan's most famous winter festival, attracting thousands of visitors from all corners of the globe. This year, I was lucky enough to experience it firsthand during its renowned two-week run in February. The festival is known for its intricate ice sculptures and snow displays set against the backdrop of the spectacular Hokkaido scenery. Despite the freezing temperatures, the enthusiasm of festival-goers made the experience enjoyable and unforgettable.
Facing the Cold Climate: My First Experience with Snow
For someone who had never seen snowfall before, this trip was a thrilling adventure. The weather in Sapporo often dipped below freezing, with some days seeing lows of -21°C. Despite the chill, the beauty of snow-covered landscapes left an indelible mark on me. I must admit, I was initially unprepared for such cold, but this only added to the magic of my winter experience. Talking to the camera while vlogging my journey was a new but exciting challenge. I’m aware it may not be perfect, but I hope to engage you with this storytelling style in my upcoming videos!
